LINC Joins Groundbreaking Educators at the New York Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NYAEYC) Annual Conference

From April 22-24, Literacy in Community’s (LINC) Chief Program Officer, Laura Walsh, and Senior Director of Early Literacy, Josh Barocas, joined innovative educators at the New York Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NYAEYC) Annual Conference in Verona, NY. NYAEYC promotes excellence in early care and education for New York State children and families through education, advocacy, and the support of the profession, and is an effective networking and educational resource for LINC.

Laura and Josh facilitated a professional development session that was filled with 40+ early childhood leaders and educators from around the state, eager to learn about LINC’s work with schools, daycare centers, families, and children. The attendees participated in LINC’s educational games and discussed the need for targeted play-based learning to support foundational literacy skills in early childhood.

The conference also provided an opportunity for Laura and Josh to attend hands-on workshops led by groundbreaking educators, like Kenneth Sherman from the HighScope Educational Research Foundation, in which games are used to support executive functioning in preschoolers.

Laura and Josh are excited to bring what they learned back to LINC and are grateful to have participated in NYAEYC for the second year in a row. Like LINC, NYAEYC has a vision for all children in New York State to have equal access to high-quality early care and education programs.
