Nonprofit CEO looks at AI in NYC schools
By Spectrum News Staff New York City

Last week, parents and advocates held a rally to try to convince Mayor Zohran Mamdani to impose a two-year moratorium on the use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
The rally followed Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels last month issuing preliminary guidance on AI use in schools.
Under these new rules, AI for emails and translation was deemed acceptable, but not for grading or making other decisions about students.
Julie Samuels, the president and CEO of the nonprofit group Tech:NYC, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Monday to talk about the challenges of interacting with AI in the classroom.
