The literacy crisis in New York demands immediate and bold action, and at LINC we envision a future where literacy knows no limits.
On Saturday, February 15, Literacy in Community (LINC) will join the passionate elected officials, business leaders, advocates, and community members who are dedicated to empowering and educating communities of color at the 54th Annual New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislators (NYSABPRL) Conference in Albany, NY.
With the support of Assemblymembers, George Alvarez and Manny De Los Santos, Literacy Without Limits: A Bold Vision for Early Childhood Education will be moderated by SBH Health System’s Vice President of Government & Community Affairs and former New York State Assemblymember, Victor Pichardo, Jr. Esteemed panelists include: LINC’s Chief Program Officer, Laura Walsh, Committee for Hispanic Children and Families’ Chief Program Officer, Ingrid Matias Chungata, Reach Out and Read of Greater New York’s Director of Literacy and Public Policy, Kari Karjiaka, Literacy Academy Collective’s Director of Family and Community Engagement, Naomi Pena, and Brilla Schools Network’s Chief of Operations and Community Relations, Reyes Claudio.
The literacy crisis in New York demands immediate and bold action. Systemic inequities persist, preventing many children – disproportionately from Black, Brown, and immigrant communities – from developing essential reading skills. This panel convenes experts who are revolutionizing early childhood education with innovative, equity-driven strategies that dismantle barriers to literacy. This panel will explore innovative approaches, successful strategies, and bold visions for ensuring every child has access to high-quality early literacy experiences.
Topics include:
The Science of Reading and Parent Engagement
Developmental Delays and Early Intervention
The School’s Point of View
The Power of Collective Impact
Literacy is a Civil Right
By showcasing data-driven solutions, actionable strategies, and the collective power of partnerships, these advocates aim to inspire attendees to join the movement for a New York where every child has the opportunity to thrive as a reader and a learner.
Investing in early childhood literacy is an investment in equity, justice, and the future of New York.
Spread the love this Valentine’s Day. Together we can bring our bold vision to life and make literacy without limits a reality.
