Hats off to LINC's 2024 NYC Marathon Team: Jessica, Cat, Isabelle, and Inez!
They joined runners, spectators, and fans from around the globe for a 26.2-mile journey through the five boroughs of New York City, in the name of early literacy.
Our team is building healthier lives and stronger communities through the transformative power of reading and running, and we could not be prouder.
LINC staff member and marathon runner, Inez Martinez has dreamed of running the NYC Marathon since she was 7 years old, and today her dream came true.
“Literacy holds a special place in my heart, thanks to my mother. Growing up in Mexico, my mother had limited access to books but always found ways to nurture her curiosity. After moving to the US, she faced the challenge of not speaking English, often relying on me to translate and navigate different situations with her, like going to the hospital, dealing with school paperwork, or writing various documents. These experiences made me realize the crucial role of literacy in everyday life.
Now I work at LINC, helping families and children embrace the joys of reading and learning. I believe that literacy opens up a world of opportunities and empowers individuals to achieve their dreams. Running and reading have been my outlets for coping with life's challenges, and now I combine these passions to make a difference in my community of East Harlem and across New York City.”
Congratulations, Inez on a dream come true and to our entire team for helping to bring the joy and power of reading to New York City’s most vulnerable children. Click here to donate in support of Team LINC.
