New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña and City Council Members joined together on Monday, November 16th to honor parent volunteers at LINC’s second annual Very Involved Parent (VIP) recognition ceremony at Viacom Inc.
LINC Very Involved Parents are essential to LINC’s mission to deliver high quality early literacy programming throughout New York City. The ceremony honored 81 VIPs for successfully completing training and for hosting their own programs in neighborhoods from the South Bronx to Northern Staten Island, including South Jamaica, Queens and East New York, Brooklyn.
The night began with City Council Members addressing the audience and praising the VIPs for their hard work and dedication. Council Member Levin introduced keynote speaker New York City Schools Education Chancellor Fariña who spoke about her experiences in education and the importance of early literacy on development, classroom achievement and career success.
The evening concluded with remarks from Edgar Sotelo – host of “Shoboy in the Morning” on 92.3 FM and early childhood literacy advocate – and LINC Executive Director Shari Levine who congratulated the VIPs for their accomplishment.
