Hey batter batter! LINC held its fourth annual summer program kickoff event, Reading on the Rails, at Yankee Stadium on July 3, and it was an “out of the park experience.” This year’s kickoff began when families read via public transportation to the stadium. Once there, children, parents and LINC staff gathered inside the stadium to take part in a read-a-loud, literacy activities and a parent workshop. The New York Yankees Senior Vice President of Corporate & Community Relations, Brian Smith welcomed families to the stadium, while City Council Member Vanessa Gibson addressed the crowd about the importance of summer reading. The evening concluded with an on-field recognition for the LINC children, and families stayed to watch the Yankees beat the Atlanta Braves! Thank you to the New York Yankees for hosting Reading on The Rails and for helping us create a home-run reading experience!
